What To Expect From Scaling and Root Planing Procedure in College Station, TX?

Our dentist will perform a detailed examination of your mouth to determine the signs of periodontal disease. If you have mild to moderate periodontitis, we will recommend scaling and root planing in College Station, TX, to restore healthy gums. It is a non-invasive treatment that does not involve the placement of incisions or sutures.

    Scaling

The purpose of scaling is to remove stubborn plaque and tartar deposits along the gum line. We use an ultrasonic device that emits low-frequency vibrations to break down hard plaque deposits. By gently moving the scaler tip along the gum line, we can effectively remove these deposits above and beneath the natural gum line. Our dentist may also utilize manual scalers and curettes to completely scrape off the remaining pieces of tartar.

    Root Planing

The process of root planing is similar to scaling, except that it takes place on the surfaces of your tooth roots beneath the gum line. We will use a tool to carefully push your gums away and expose the tooth roots. Using the scaler, we will clean along the roots that are covered with plaque, tartar, or harmful oral bacteria.
We may place antibiotics beneath the gum line for protection against bacterial toxins. The process of thorough debridement promotes the healing of gingival tissues and prevents the risk of periodontal disease.
